Do You Believe In Magic?

Had dinner and drinks with a gal fren yesterday.

OK so A's more like a boy fren. Cos she looks like a nice sweet girl, but talks like an ah-beng boy. Sometimes more so than me =)) But I digress.

Anyway, after we got bored talking about relationships, work (we were ex-colleagues) and cars (the silly girl traded in her Alfa for a Toyota!), we started on some vacation chit-chat. I told A we were planning a trip to Bali in August and she told me, coincidentally, that she had just returned from this kewl beach resort (forgot the name) at Legian.

A's into abstract oils and she was waxing, no pun intended, lyrical over this great portrait she bought from one of the shops along the beachfront =)) But before she could tell me what the picture was, I cut in and told her I had heard horror stories about people who buy funny stuff like statues, amulets and tribal art-and-craft from around SouthEast-Asia, only to bring these knick-knacks home and have some kind of, erm, eerie things happening. Its like there is some kind of spell cast on these objects.

Take the Father of a teenage boy who lugged a bronze statue (shall not say from which religion) home, supposedly for good luck. Only to have his seemingly normal son suddenly jump off their apartment block the very next day. Or this friend of mine who bought ethnic carvings from a rustic village co-op, only to come home after work everyday and notice that the damn things have inexplicably changed location from where he had originally placed them. He lives alone by the way. Yikes!

So I totally freaked A out =))

The picture she bought, the girl finally confessed, was a portrait of 3 Balinese damsels who, get this, did not have any eyeballs! Aiyoooh! What kind of art is this, I admonished her =)) She looked scared and sheepish, and admitted that friends had indeed remarked that the picture gave them the creeps. Some say like 3 pontianaks who had their eyes gorged out. But A bought it cos she liked it. Wierd taste lah this girl I tell you =))

And guess where the pretty little picture is sitting now?

In my car boot cos A dragged me back to her place and insisted I take the damn thing out of her house for starting all this shit =P

Actually it doesn't really look that bad. Any takers? =))
